CHESTER CITY'S Football League status is still hanging by a thread.
The Blues still need at least one point from their two remaining home matches – against Stockport County tomorrow night, or against Macclesfield on Saturday – to secure their place next season in League Two.

City picked up a point from Saturday's goalless draw against Shrewsbury Town at The New Meadow, and are now three points clear of Mansfield Town in second bottom place.

Blues boss Simon Davies said: "We now know that we need one point from our two remaining matches.

"Maybe the Stockport and Hereford results will help our cause tomorrow at home to Stockport, because Stockport can't win automatic promotion.

"But we haven't got to think about all that. The lads know how important our last two games are and we'll address ourselves in the right manner and make sure we get the right result."

Davies praised his players for another hard-working performance at Shrewsbury, adding: "I thought we were evenly matched, and at times I thought it was too comfortable. But when it gets like that sometimes we can shut off slightly and their half-chances arrived when we did shut-off.

"But we stuck together and for the first time in a while we got a clean sheet which the team have deserved for a while.

"Paul Linwood has been outstanding for quite a while and he doesn't get the praise he deserves.

"But it wasn't just Paul Linwood that deserved praise at Shrewsbury because they all did well and that was a big plus."

But Davies admitted he was slightly concerned that his side weren't scoring goals, adding: "I'm slightly concerned that we're not scoring, but we created our fair share of opportunities at Shrewsbury.

"If the Paul McManus shot that hit the post had been a couple of inches the other way we would have won 1-0.

"To be fair I like to see my side playing good football, creating chances and scoring goals, but at the end of the day I'll take an awful lot from achieving a clean sheet at Shrewsbury."

Davies revealed that striker John Murphy had seen the doctor and received treatment from club physio Ben Holt after sustaining a head injury which should heal before tomorrow night.

But Davies wasn't sure about Kevin Ellison's availability for the Stockport match after the player pulled up with a recurrence of his thigh injury and had to be substituted by Paul Rutherford five minutes before the break at Shrewsbury.

- The Chester City Independent Supporters Association will hold their AGM tonight at the United Services Club, Crook Street, Chester, commencing at 7.30pm. Anyone wishing to join the ISA tonight will be allowed admission.
