RICHIE PARTRIDGE hopes history repeats itself tonight.
The Chester City winger is expecting to start in the Blues' home match against Stockport County at the Deva Stadium, (7.45pm kick-off).

And Partridge admits he has happy memories of his last appearance against the Hatters when he scored two goals in a 2-1 victory at Edgeley Park.

He said: "We all know that we just need one point to guarantee our safety and secure League Two football for next season.

"We played well against Shrewsbury on Saturday and got a point. We thought that might have been enough, but obviously the results didn't go for us and now we need a point from our last two games.

"I'm hoping our fans can get right behind us for our last two home matches and help us pick up that point.

"We'll be going into our two remaining games looking for six points, but we would obviously settle for one."

Stockport were beaten to the third automatic promotion place by Hereford United at the weekend when the Hatters were beaten in their league match at Barnet, but Partridge believes tonight's visitors will still prove tough opponents.

He added: "Sometimes when teams are under pressure it can either go for or against you.

"I don't think Stockport will be under pressure, but we'll have to wait and see what tonight brings.

"We'll certainly be up for it and we'll be giving it a right good go.

"It would be nice if I can repeat the two goals I scored against Stockport earlier in the season, but three points will do me no matter who scores.

"We're hoping we can get the point we require tonight, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't, but it's not a nice predicament going into the last game and knowing you need to get a result.

"We'll be looking to get it all done and dusted and over with by tonight."

Reflecting on the waterlogged pitch which caused the abandonment of the Chester-Stockport match a few weeks ago, Blues' boss Simon Davies said: "If I could turn back the clock I would ask the referee to let us play the other 20 minutes and we would have taken the point that we need at the moment and that would have been that.

"But I can't do that and not many things are going for us right now. But we still have a good spirit and we'll address tonight's match in the right manner.

"As a professional outfit I think Stockport will try and keep their momentum going for the play-offs, but we'll meet them head on and get that point that we need.

"I am enjoying my job managing Chester, and what I've been through in the last two and a half months should stand me in good stead for the next 25 years."
