OUR local hero this week is a woman who has dedicated her time to helping disabled people get out and about.

Sarah Massey works for Groundwork Wrexham and Flintshire and is the co-ordinator at Mentor Allan, a programme that helps people with learning and physical disabilities to get more active.

One of Sarah's latest projects has been the creation of a cycling event in Etna Park, where disabled people can use special cycles adapted to their particular needs.

She also helps disabled people do things they wouldn't usually do, such as orienteering and abseiling.

Sarah's colleague, Ingrid Emerson, is the executive director of Groundwork Wrexham and Flintshire.

She said: "Sarah is really hard working and dedicated to the project.

"She has a lovely way about her and gets on with absolutely everybody.

"She really enjoys the kinds of achievements she gets from her work. She is a great colleague."

Buckley councillor Dennis Hutchinson said: "Sarah does a wonderful job and is dedicated.

"The people whom she helps think the world if her.

"He label as a local hero is well deserved."

Sarah spends much of her time with disabled people on the projects which she organises.
