Developers behind proposals to build a Lidl store on land at the junction of Denbigh Road and Milford Street, in Mold, have appealed to the Planning Inspectorate for Wales, after Flintshire Council failed to make a decision.
The decision on whethe
r the store will go ahead is now out of the local authority's hands, and will be made by a planning inspector.
The council's planning committee will be objecting to the plans.
Mold Cllr Chris Bithell led the opposition to the plans, claiming building a supermarket on the site would have a 'dire effect' on Mold town centre.
He said: "A number of amendments have been made to the application, but there are still some major parts of it that are unacceptable to Mold residents.
"This would take trade away from the town centre. It's an edge-of-town site which is predominantly residential."
Concerns were also raised over road safety and pedestrian access.
Mold Town Council has suggested the former Kwik Save site on Chester Road as an alternative site for the new Lidl.
Flintshire Council's objections will now be passed on the planning inspector.
