Appeal to trace driver who hit Flintshire horse
A Flintshire woman is appealing for help in tracing the driver of a car which hit her horse and drove off.
Claire Main, 33, from Holywell, said her 15-year-old horse was seriously injured and will never be ridden again after the incident.
Claire is pregnant with her first child and two young riders, Naomi Wynn, 15 and Bradie Falshaw, 14, were exercising Claire's two horses, Sonney and Pokey, on a country lane in Holywell.
A car sped past them, hitting the horse in its back legs, and failed to stop to help the girls.
Naomi said: "Me and my friend Bradie heard a car speeding round the corner so I shouted at the driver to slow down.
"He braked and it made a big noise, the car hit Sonney and sped off. I was really shocked. Bradie and I got off the horses and checked them over. At first Sonney looked like he just had a bit of swelling but we found out later it was worse."
Claire, who has ridden the now semi-retired horse at shows, said nobody knows if Sonney will recover.
She said: "He's got severe pelvic damage and it's a waiting game now to see if he will pull through or not.
"I doubt he'll ever be ridden again. I panicked when I found out what happened, I've had him for 10 years – I can't believe the driver didn't stop, if not to help the horse, to help the girls. It was a shock for them."
Claire and local police are urging anybody with any information about the incident, which happened on Tuesday, April 29 on Llynhelig Road in Llock, to contact police.
Anyone with any details of the car and any witnesses are asked to contact PC 2157 Tony Gray at North Wales Police on 0845 607 1002.
