The owner of a large bird of prey seen flying over a Flintshire village has called for help in recapturing it.
Andy Povey said from Llanarmon-yn-Ial near Mold said the bird – an American red-tailed hawk – escaped during its training.

It has a wingspan of three and a half feet, and a distinctive red tail.

Andy calmed residents' fears that the bird would attack lambs or even small dogs.

"It will survive in the wild by eating rabbits. People don't need to be worried," he said.

This is the second misfortune for the 28-year-old Flintshire bird-lover whose previous harris hawk, Jake, was electrocuted on a live cable.

Andy has now asked local residents to help him find his lost hawk that he hopes to train to become a display bird.

"The bird has six-inch pieces of leather hanging from its legs which are used to tie its to its perch," Andy explained

"It looks and flies like a buzzard but is bigger. It has got a blue tag on its leg."

If you have any information that could help Andy please contact the Evening Leader newsdesk on 01352 707751, email digitalnews@nwn.co.uk or leave a comment below.
