The George and Dragon, on Liverpool Road, has been included in an online hotel guide featuring properties with a paranormal history.
Chester has long been associated with ghostly sightings and is steeped in 2,000 years of history.
The site of the George and Dragon, just outside the walls, is linked to the Roman occupation of the city and it is believed the pub stands on a burial ground.
Landlords Neil and Rachel Mayers have been running the business for the last year and are aware of its reputation.
Rachel said: "The previous manager looked into the history of the pub and there have been a few sightings, from customers and staff.
"Apparently there is a ghost of a man in the cellar and room 31 is haunted but we haven't seen anything yet."
The 100-year-old building regularly attracts psychics and paranormal investigators and footsteps have reportedly been heard marching through the pub.
The guide was developed due to the overwhelming demand for a directory of haunted accommodation throughout the UK after the popularity of TV programmes like Most Haunted and Dead Famous.
James Griffiths, of Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns, investigated most of the hotels for the guide.
"Having had the opportunity to visit some of the most haunted hotels throughout the UK, I can honestly say they do live up to expectations," he said.
