A Chester student has spoken about the moment he was stabbed as he heroically fought off knife-wielding burglars.
The Evening Leader reported on Tuesday how a man was stabbed during a burglary at a house on Gladstone Road, Chester, on Saturday.

Three men, all with hoods over their heads and scarves covering their faces, entered the house at 4.30am armed with a knife.

They walked into the living room where one man was working on a laptop.

One of the intruders said to him: "We've come for your money and your stuff. Don't do anything stupid."

Two men went into the kitchen to get another knife, then made a search of the property while one burglar stayed in the living room.

Chris Bolton, 21, a Business and Management student at the University of Chester, was in bed when two men went into his room.

Speaking about the frightening incident, he said: "It was about 4am and I was in bed with my girlfriend when we heard a noise. Then we saw two guys with knives come into the room.

"I jumped up, went to the wardrobe where I had a bat, then turned on them and started hitting them. They backed out into the corridor and we got into a fumble.

"One of them started hitting me on the head about 10 times with his fist and they were shouting 'Stab him, stab him'.

"The one from the living room ran through to the hallway and tried to get out with the laptop. It was when the guy burst through the door that they stabbed me.

"They all ran towards the door but I stopped them from getting out. I grabbed hold of one of them and slammed his head against the wall.

"I then opened the latch of the door and they got out. The first two got out of the garden and closed the gate on their mate, which was nice.

"So I ran out and started hitting him on the back with the bat. He was yelling and I realised I was bleeding so I went back into the house.

"My girlfriend was really shaken up and was quite upset. I wasn't really fazed but I think it was because I got to hit them."

Chris, from the Isle of Man, said the police and paramedics arrived at the scene quickly and he was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he was treated for a one-and-a-half inch wound to his stomach.

He also suffered cuts and bruises in the fight.

"The doctor told me that if the knife had gone inside instead of across it would have pierced my spleen," he said.

The raiders escaped with a black Acer Aspire laptop but no one has been arrested in connection with the aggravated burglary.

Speaking about the intruders, he said: "I hope the police do catch them."

One man was described as dark skinned, in his early 20s and about 6ft tall. The other two men were white, also in their early 20s and of the same height.

All were wearing dark clothing and one was believed to be wearing a green scarf across his face.

Police are still appealing for witnesses or anyone with knowledge about the three burglars.

Anyone with information should contact DC Stuart Thomas or DS Debbie Bellis on 01244 613150.

Information can also be left anonymously on the Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.
