Cold snap hits as North Wales returns to work

FORECASTERS are urging North Wales residents to brace themselves for snow and ice today as the cold snap continues to hold the region in its grip.
Conditions on many roads across Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire are hazardous, with fears things could get even worse with rain falling on frozen surfaces, and even, snow in higher places.
Dave Cox, national forecaster with the Met Office, is urging people to take care as they make their way back to work after the Christmas break.
He said: "Today is going to be a tricky day for many parts of the country and Flintshire could be facing a band of rain, sleet and hill snow.
"We are not certain of how much there will be, but there is a risk of widespread ice, so we are asking people to use their common sense and keep up to date with regular forecasts.
"Rain falling onto surfaces that have not been gritted could be dangerous for people travelling to work after the Christmas holiday, so be sure to check what is happening on the roads."
Mr Cox predicted that later in the week the weather looks set to thaw slightly, bringing with it bands of rain.
He added: "On Tuesday it looks like the conditions will go back to being a bit more settled, with high pressure returning once again.
"Later in the week, there will probably be less cold air coming from the Atlantic, but this will bring with it some rain.
"The timing is uncertain at the moment, but it looks like there will be a change later in the week."
