AMBULANCE staff were ready and able to deal with the threat of severe winter weather this month thanks to support from the community.
To help frontline emergency staff prepare for the possibility of dealing with heavy snow, Threeways of Abergele loaned the Welsh Ambulance Service an Isuzu Rodeo to be used alongside the region’s existing emergency medical service 4x4 fleet.

Local
mountain rescue teams were also on standby to work with the service in case weather conditions turned for the worse.

On call officer Keith Williams took charge of the vehicle for the weekend before handing it back to the dealership following the improvement in the weather.

North region fleet manager Tom Roberts, who is based at Wrexham Fleet Depot, explained staff had prepared the region’s 4x4 fleet for operational duties after receiving advanced warning of possible heavy winter weather at the beginning of the month.

“With the possibility of heavy snow falling across North Wales, we wanted to make sure that our emergency care service would not be interrupted,” he said. “So we made sure that 4x4 vehicles were on standby in case the weather turned.

“We are very grateful for the additional support from Threeways garage. Their kind offer boosted our 4x4 fleet provision and helped us be ready to carry on serving communities as normal if the winter weather had hit the region.”
