A BOOKMAKER has donated the profits from a race to Wrexham's Nightingale House Hospice.
The Garden City-based bookmaker Corbett's, sponsor of the Chester race meeting on Saturday, August 30, has donated one of its high profile races to Nightingale House Hospice (NHH).

The bookmaker's gesture was made in a bid to raise awareness of th
e charity's work and achievements in the local community.

Michael Corbett, Corbett's managing director said: "We are delighted to dedicate one of the regions biggest races to the NHH.

"We are delighted to be able to help Nightingale House Hospice increase the awareness to the community that it serves, whilst helping to secure long-term sustainable funding for the wide range of specialist palliative care services on offer at the hospice, such as the day care unit, the in-patients ward, the medical outpatients' clinics and the specialist bereavement services for children."

John Savage, chief executive of NHH said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be involved in such an exciting event as this at Chester Racecourse, and we value the support that Corbett's is providing immensely.

"The hospice relies heavily on the goodwill and endeavour of local businesses to ensure that these much-valued services continue to be provided and expanded for the benefit of patients and their families.

"It will cost £2.5 million to run the hospice in 2008, only 20 per cent of this will come from statutory sources. A further £2 million will need to be raised this year from the general public, companies and charitable trusts."
