This year Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham Councils will be joining together as host counties for the 2008 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, which will be held in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells from Monday.
Each of the four counties has contribu
ted £15,000 towards the construction of a new, enlarged food hall to be built on the showground.
The famous food hall is Wales' most important centre for the promotion of high quality food and drink produced in Wales.
The Royal Welsh Show is one of Wales' premier annual events which has attracted crowds of over 7 million since it started in 1963. It is the shop window for Welsh farming and is recognised as one of the most important and successful events of its kind in Europe.
The four counties say their presence at the show will give them an excellent opportunity to introduce the counties to all those visiting the show as well as to showcase locally sourced and produced food and a wealth of tourism attractions and places to stay.
Cllr Aled Roberts, leader of Wrexham Council, said: "We are very proud to be one of the host counties of this year's show.
"The Royal Welsh is an excellent event which attracts people from all over Wales and beyond. We hope to welcome as many visitors as possible onto our stand to show them the variety of what Wrexham can offer – rural and urban, agricultural and industrial.
"Wrexham is a great place to visit, study, work and live."
Leader of Flintshire Council, Cllr Arnold Woolley, added: "We are pleased to support this joint initiative with our neighbouring councils to help promote our region and our rural and agricultural economies. I would like to wish this year's show every success and would hope that Flintshire residents visiting the event will take the opportunity to visit the council stand."
The show attracts up to 8,000 livestock entries from across the whole of Wales and the rest of the UK. It stages the largest display of sheep breeders to be seen anywhere in the world and thousands of international visitors have travelled to see the world famous display of Welsh ponies and cobs.
The host counties can be found on stand E395 which will be open to the public from 9 – 6pm daily.
