SOLDIERS from the Royal Welsh Fusiliers were given a huge welcome as they were granted the freedom of the Wrexham county borough.
The Royal Welsh marched through the Wrexham's streets on Saturday afternoon.

Starting off at Hightown Barracks, they made their way along Kingsmills Road, Salop Road and Mount Street, where they were joined by members of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades' Association.

They then continued along Yorke Street, High Street, Hope Street, Argyll Street and Queens Square.

After forming up on Llwyn Isaf, the mayor, Cllr David Griffiths, addressed and inspected the parade and present a freedom scroll to the colonel of the regiment, Gerhard Wheeler.

The freedom confers on the regiment the right to march through the streets of Wrexham on all ceremonial occasions.

It consists of two regular battalions, the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Wales, plus a Territorial Army battalion.

If you took any pictures of the parade and would like to see them published in the Evening Leader email them to digitalnews@nwn.co.uk.
