VALE of Clwyd darts world champion Mark Webster is preparing to find out whether Phil Tufnell can spin the arrows.
The BDO Lakeside World Professional Darts Champion, who hails from Denbigh, will take part in the PartyPoker.com Pro-Celebrity Challenge in Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday night.

It is the warm-up event ahead of the big-money PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts, which starts on Saturday.

Mark says he is looking forward to the star darts challenge and he said "The celebrity thing is a bonus."

The pro-celebrity challenge sees eight of the world's biggest darting stars from both the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and British Darts Organisation (BDO) being partnered by some top celebrities.

Mark is partnered by World Cup-winning England rugby union player Mike Tindall, one of a number of world champions in the star-studded field.

The Webster-Tindall partnership takes on the team of five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld and cricket's former spin king, Phil 'The Cat' Tufnell.

Thirteen-time world champ and darting legend Phil 'The Power' Taylor teams up with ex-Liverpool FC hard man Neil 'Razor' Ruddock.

They who will play six-times world snooker champion Steve Davis and current BDO ladies' world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova, from Flintshire.

Should the Webster/Tindall team get through, they will face either James Wade and Steve Backley or Peter Manley and David 'Devilfish' Ulliott.

Also in the celebrity challenge line-up is current PDC world champion John Part, partnering former boxing world champion Barry McGuigan, and Wayne 'Hawaii 501' Mardle, who is supported by Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster in the ITV soap.

All games are the best of five legs, with celebrities throwing first.

Mark is looking forward to the whole week of darts, which offers a rare chance for BDO and PDC players to test themselves against each other.

The PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts boasts a field of 32 of the best players in the world, split into eight groups of four.

"It's a PDC tournament and it's good to mix," said Mark, who last year beat Phil Taylor in a PDC/BDO tournament in Holland.

Injury could threaten his bid to add another major trophy to his impressive haul.

"I haven't been practising for a week with my arm," he said earlier this week.

"I've been to the physio and I don't know (what's wrong)."

Mark says he has a tough group draw for the main event, as he is iin the same group as 2004 World Masters winner Mervyn King and Dutch wonderkid Michael van Gerwen, who was a World Master two years ago.

"I will be honest. I will be made up to get through my group," he added.

The opening session from 12pm on Saturday will see defending champion Taylor and world champions Part, Webster and Dobromyslova in action.

Mark's first match is against Northern Ireland's Colin McGarry.

All games will be shown live on ITV4, with a nightly highlights programme on ITV1.
