A DENBIGHSHIRE high school has put a new twist and shake on teen musical Grease.
Students and teachers at Ysgol Glan Clwyd have put together a show-stopping version of the Hollywood screen musical, Grease, translating both script and songs into Welsh.

With the school holding a sell-out performance last year of a Welsh version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, they decided to give a truly Celtic flavour to the everlasting songs of John Travolta, Frankie Avalon and Olivia Newton John.

Grease ydi'r gair opens with a lively, colourful perfomance, which provides the tempo for the whole show.

The show was well structured and rehearsed, focusing on one group of characters while the other was blacked out.

The Pink Ladies' confidently play their feisty characters.

The timid and naturally shy Sandy is professionally played by Angharad Rowlands, of year 10, whose singing voice is outstanding. The T-Birds, dressed to impress the boys, are comfortable with their characters and a hit with the audience.

The rebellious gang is played perfectly, with main ringleader Danny Zucko, played by Rugg Iero, of Year 13, showing off his great acting skills and personality – and his looks matching those of the original, John Travolta.

The Welsh music and drama departments had a hard job on the script, tweaking it into a more modern and local show while the art and technology departments worked hard on the set.

Local companies also contributed, with Meculo Costumes, Anglesey, helping with the outfits and Arch Motors Scrapyard, Llandudno, donating the car to the show.
