A FOURTEEN year-old girl who suffers from a rare heart condition has been airlifted to a North East England hospital for a life-saving heart transplant.
Liberty Morris, of Henllan, Denbighshire, suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and has been waiting for a transplant for the past seven months.

It is the second time the Denbighshire schoolgirl has been on a transplant waiting list, but now the wait is over.

She was rushed by air ambulance to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne for the transplant.

Last night a hospital spokesman said: "I have spoken to her mother, Tracy, and Liberty has had her transplant successfully and is stable."

Liberty's parents, Tracy and Paul Morris, said her condition was diagnosed within 24 hours of her birth at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.

She was then transferred to Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital and had her first heart operation when she was six days old.

Since then her life has been dogged by a battle with her failing heart.

In July this year, the Evening Leader's sister paper the Denbighshire Free Press reported how the Ysgol Glan Clwyd pupil, who uses a wheelchair to get about, was prevented from getting to her lessons when both lifts in the school broke down.

But the leader of Denbighshire County Council, Cllr Hugh Evans, said the lift would be fixed before pupils went back to school in September after the summer holidays to enable Liberty to attend all her classes.

Last night, the headteacher at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, Meurig Rees, said: "The school wish Liberty well, and a speedy recovery."

- The Freeman is one of the UK's top heart transplant hospitals.

Its cardiopulmonary transplant service was established more than 20 years ago, and since the hospital's first heart transplant in 1985, 800 heart transplant operations have been performed, including more than 140 on children.
