TRIBUTES have been paid to a 24-year-old woman described as an "inspiration to all" who has died from an extremely rare genetic disorder.
Emma Pryde, of Ponciau, passed away at Wrexham Maelor Hospital last Tuesday after battling the rare Alstrom's disease from birth.
Her parents, Chris and Elena, have paid tribute to their daughter who had just weeks before helped choose the name of her newborn niece.
"She never let her disease stop her," said Elena.
"She just got on with life. She never moaned once, she never complained."
It is believed that only a handful of people in the UK suffer from the condition, which affects vision, hearing and kidney function.
Elena said: "It attacks all the major organs but that never held her back – she was a member of (disabled groups) Dynamic and PHAB, she went to the Royal National College of the Blind, in Hereford, and Yale College. She had to finish college about 12 months ago because the stays in hospital were getting longer.
"But she had only been in for a week when she passed away. We had always known that Emma wasn't going to survive but even to the last breath she was hoping she would make it."
Emma's dad Chris added: "She never had a bad word to say about anybody. She was such a nice girl and it is very sad. We will miss her greatly."
Emma, according to her mother, also enjoyed an active social life, and was a regular at her local pub, The Swan.
Elena said: "She loved doing karaoke. Her favourite songs were Crazy and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow."
She is survived by a brother, James, and sister, Sarah, and was an aunty to Sarah's two daughters, Poppy aged five and Millie.
She helped her sister choose the name for Millie, who was born just three months ago.
Elena also told how Emma had become inseparable from guide dog Maple, who the family are now hoping to keep permanently.
"When Emma and Maple were together they were like Morecambe and Wise," she said.
"She was a real family girl – she loved us and we were devoted to her.
"Her sister described her as an inspiration to all and everybody who met her and I think that's the way she will be remembered."
Emma's funeral takes place on Friday at Rhostyllen Holy Trinity Church from 1pm. Floral tributes are welcome or donations may be given in memory via the offertory plate.
