POLICE officers raided a house in Mold as they continued their fight against drugs.
PC Anthony Butlin led the operation last night, and arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a class C drug with intent to supply.

More than five and a half ounces of cannabis resin was seized in the operation, as well as cash.

A team of five officers searched the premises and the Evening Leader was invited to view the operation.

PC Butlin said: "This was a very positive result and it sends a clear message that we don't tolerate drugs in Mold.

"It is part of our ongoing operation in our war against drugs in the town.

"People seem to think cannabis is legal to possess.

"It is a class C drug, but it is still a controlled substance and is soon going to be reclassified as a class B drug."

A number of children were playing in the street and looked on curiously as officers brought out the arrested man.

PC Butlin said: "There are kids growing up on the estate and they can see on a regular basis, people selling drugs.

"They just think it's normal and it shouldn't be."

The 21 year-old was interviewed and bailed to return to Mold Police Station at a later date.

Further investigation will be carried out on the items found.

Officers are encouraging people to contact police with information in relation to drug dealing in the county.

PC Butlin added: "This operation has resulted from information from local residents on the estate.

"We rely on people to give us information in confidence which can be done by contacting officers on their individual mobile numbers, through the main switchboard or via Crimestoppers.

"Every bit of information the public gives us is treated in the strictest confidence and we encourage people to come forward with information, no matter how small it may seem to them."

To report any information in relation to drug dealing, North Wales Police can be contacted through the main switchboard on 0845 6071002, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, and via PC Anthony Butlin on 07817419054 and PCSO Lynn Turner on 07854329723.

RECLASSIFICATION OF CANNABIS

Earlier this month, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced Cannabis is to be reclassified as a class B drug.

Taking effect from early 2009, the reclassification will mean:

* More robust enforcement against cannabis supply and possession, and those repeatedly caught with the drug will not just receive cannabis warnings;

* A new targeted approach to tackling cannabis farms and the organised criminals behind them;

* Introducing additional aggravating sentencing factors for those caught supplying cannabis and other illegal substances near further and higher educational establishments, mental health institutions and prisons.

* Working with the Association of Chief Police Officers to look at how existing legislation and powers can be used to curtail the sale and promotion of cannabis paraphernalia; and

* Updating and refreshing public information messages about the harm caused by cannabis.
