FAMILIES on a Wrexham estate are invited to celebrate their local history at a special event.
Those living on Wales and West Housing Association's Barracks Field Estate and surrounding areas can attend a family learning day on Saturday, May 24 at 11am as part of NIACE Dysgu Cymru's Adult Learner's Week.

The Barracks Field Estate was built
in three phases between 1981 and 1983. The properties and roads are named after local Victoria Cross recipients who served with regiments based at Hightown Barracks.

Major Ellingham (now retired) from Hightown Barracks will present a short talk on the Victoria Cross, the modern day army and its future.

A plaque with the Crest of The Royal Welch Fusiliers will be unveiled at midday by the association's chief executive, Anne Hinchey, to commemorate the bravery of our soldiers.

The official proceedings will be followed by activities for children and refreshments.

Chairman of Barracks Field Tenants' Association John Williams said: "The event will provide a great opportunity for young and old to share their experiences and memories and to learn from each other.

"It will be interesting to find out whose ancestors served in the forces. We will also be able to access genealogy websites to see if we can trace further details."
