A Flintshire farmer who has been in a coma for four months after being critically injured in a car crash is to be transferred to a specialist unit.
Elfed Jones, 61, of Ffrainc Farm, Treuddyn, near Mold, was airlifted to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan on April 3 after his Mitsubishi 4x4 was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A494 near Ruthin.

Emergency services rushed to the scene
and cut Mr Jones and his brother Idris, 77, from the wreckage. The road was closed for six hours.

Idris escaped serious injury but Elfed, who suffered serious head injuries, remains in a critical condition.

He was transferred to Ruthin Community Hospital and is now due to be moved to a specialist brain rehabilitation unit in Cardiff.

Idris said: "Elfed will also be undergoing further surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

"We spend time at his bedside talking to him and playing his favourite music. He does move his eyes and arms, so I feel some of our messages are getting through to him.

"Hospital staff sit him in a chair and are getting him to try and stand up.

"In fact we are doing everything we can to stimulate his brain and bring him out of the coma, and I feel he will come round.

"I think he may understand what we are saying to him, but can't yet respond."
