SCHOOLCHILDREN from Connah's Quay are honouring the memory of a former pupil killed in Iraq by donating Christmas treats to RAF servicemen.
Dee Road Infants School pupils are working with the St Mark's and St David's churches in Connah's Quay, to send gift parcels containing sweets to Number 1 Squadron RAF Regiment, stationed at RAF Honington, Norfolk, where Peter McFerran was based.

The Connah's Quay-born man attended Dee Road from 1986 to 1990, and eventually went on to follow his father into the RAF in 2004.

He was killed in a mortar attack on Basra Airport in July 2007, aged 24.

Peter's father Robert praised the children for their generosity.

"It's very good of the pupils, and the school," he said.

A memorial built to commemorate Peter has been agreed by the council and local community action team, with work due to begin in early 2009.
