FILM-making, movie watching and "star" gazing have taken centre stage at a Flintshire homeless charity this summer.
Young residents at Save The Family's Plas Bellin accommodation centre in Northop Hall are enjoying a Hollywood-style school holiday as they learn all about movies, musicals and make-up during a special summer workshop in the centre's Joan Boswell Hal
l.

As well as watching a classic film each week, the would-be future stars of the silver screen have been learning the secrets of Hollywood hair and make-up and practising dance routines from the famous musicals.

They are even spending some time behind the camera to film a special documentary about life at Plas Bellin and their individual experiences.

The project is managed by group members who are operating the cameras, writing the scripts and interviewing staff and residents.

The summer holiday extravaganza will finish with an Oscar-style ceremony for all those who have taken part.

And with Hollywood glamour a must, Save the Family is appealing to anyone who may have an old prom dress or suit to spare to contact Save the Family's Youth Project Co-ordinator Kathryn Hughes on 01244 821 469.

Kathryn explained: "This is a great opportunity for our young people to experience the glitz and glamour of the film world while picking up some useful new skills.

"We're exploring many aspects of the movie making industry in a fun and quirky way

"The documentary making aspect of the experience is a chance for them to not only produce something they can be proud of but also to communicate their own experiences."

Save the Family provides emergency accommodation and training to families from throughout the North West of England and North Wales.

Since it was established more than 30 years ago, the organisation, which has an accommodation centre in North Wales, has helped more than 5,000 families find their feet.

Founded by Edna Speed MBE, the charity is currently only able to deal with 12 per cent of the families referred to it.
