NEARLY 30 jobs are set to be axed at a major manufacturing plant in Flintshire, ending weeks of speculation.
Kingspan, Europe's largest maker of flooring and insulation panels, employs between 400 and 500 people at its plant in Greenfield Business Park, Holywell.

Bosses have announced that 28 jobs are set to go in the latest blow to Flintshire's economy.

The announcement comes after a previous announcement on November 5, when the company said it was looking to shed jobs due to the slowdown in the construction market.

As the Leader reported yesterday, bosses have forecast that profits will fall by a third this year.

A company spokesman said: "It is with great regret that we can confirm that 28 jobs, subject to consultation, have been identified as potentially redundant. We remain fully committed to our site at Holywell.

"In the medium term we are confident our product and service offering will leave us well poised to take advantage of renewed market opportunity, once the economy recovers from the current downturn."

Reacting to the news, Delyn MP David Hanson said: "I'm disappointed Kingspan has to make 28 people potentially redundant, but I do know the company is committed to the site.

"The Greenfield plant is a world leader, and I'm confident the site will get through this difficult time, and that it will be secure for a long time in the future."

Antoinette Sandbach, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Delyn, called the redundancies "another devastating blow to Flintshire's economy".
