A TEACHING assistant who could soon be named the best in Britain has been praised by her school's headteacher.
Andrea Davies, 50, from Holywell, has already won the TDA Teaching Assistant of the Year Award in Wales.

The nursery nurse, who has worked at Ysgol y Llan in Whitford for the past 18 years, supports the early years teacher at the school when the nursery children attend in the afternoon.

She also runs small groups for children with special needs, looks after the youngest children in school, raises money for the school, helps run the gardening club, is responsible for first aid, organises the recycling, co-ordinates the charity work and makes costumes for school productions.

She is now in the running to win a gold plato at the UK final of the TDA Teaching Assistant of the Year Award. This will be held on October 19 at the London Palladium and televised on BBC Two.

Kath Royles, headteacher at Ysgol y Llan, praised Andrea ahead of the national finals.

She said: "It is hard to think of any area of school life at Ysgol y Llan which does not benefit from Andrea's expertise, energy and commitment.

"She is multi-talented, cheerful and dedicated to her job.

"Everyone loves Andrea, and our school would not be the same without her.

"Pupils, parents, staff and governors alike all value the massive contribution she makes to the smooth running of the school."
