A PROBE has been launched into the fire service's response time following the death of a pensioner in Llangollen in the early hours of Monday morning.
Deputy fire chief officer Colin Hanks has said the investigation has been launched after the death of John Jones Morris, 79, who was found in the bedroom of his flat on Dee Lane shortly after midnight on Monday.

The possible cause of the blaze has been attributed to a faulty electric blanket.

It is reported that crews from Llangollen arrived nearly 20 minutes after the call was logged – and after firefighters from Chirk, even though the part-time Llangollen crew are based about half a mile away from Dee Lane.

Mr Hanks said: "Regrettably a delay was encountered in the appliance from Llangollen attending the incident on Dee Lane, Llangollen, in the early hours of Monday morning.

"A full internal inquiry is now under way to review the service's response to this incident."
