A FLINTSHIRE man says his life has been transformed after being helped back into work.
Ken Tatlock of Mold was on incapacity benefit and struggling to find a route back into employment.

But now, through the A4e scheme, Mr Tatlock is working again, helping other people get off benefits, and says he has his confidence back.

A4e Wales works in partnership with the Department of Works and Pensions and local employers to encourage those on benefits back into the work force. Jobcentre Plus on Chester Road, Mold was one of three districts to be involved in the pilot scheme to encourage those who suffer health problems or disabilities.

Mr Tatlock, a retired Merchant Navy sailor and former local cabaret club owner, had to quit work when he fell ill with painful back problems and arthritis five years ago.

The 57-year-old said: "I wanted to start working again, not only to get me out of the house but to boost my confidence."

After seeing an advert for the scheme in December 2007, Mr Tatlock contacted A4E Wales and enrolled on the Department for Work and Pensions 'Pathways to Work' scheme.

He said: "I went on a training course in Wrexham and was put in touch with my adviser Stephen Powell at A4e Mold. I just happened to mention how much I admired his job. He soon got the ball rolling for me."

Mr Tatlock says he relishes his new role as a full time A4e employment coach at the Mold office.

Mr Powell said he was impressed with his progress since enrolling. He added: "Since Ken started, there's no doubt that he has benefited from being in control of his situation. He is going from strength to strength."
