A NEW book is promising a revealing insight into a historic mining tunnel.
In 1993, caver and mine explorer Cris Ebbs, of Llanarmon-yn-Ial, first published The Milwr Tunnel, a description of the 10-mile-long mines drainage tunnel which runs from Bagillt on the Dee Estuary to near Loggerheads.

Since then, there have been five reprints, which all sold out.

Now, after repeated requests for an updated version, Cris has launched The Milwr Tunnel – Second Edition.

The new edition has 3,000 more words and double the number of photographs.

The revised work also describes some of the work carried out by Grosvenor Caving Club after the closure of Halkyn Mines in 1987.

The club negotiated an access agreement and has spent 12 years exploring, photographing and surveying more than 26 miles of passages.

The 106 page publication, available in both black-and-white and colour versions, is now available online at www.lulu.com/crisebbs.

Cris Ebbs as been exploring the caves and mines of Flintshire and Denbighshire for 35years and is a member of several caving and mining organisations.

In recent years he has carried out mining consultancy work for a number of well-known companies.
