NOT enough affordable houses are being built in Wrexham, according to the leaders of two political groups in the county.
Cllr Aled Roberts, leader of the council's Liberal Democrats group, and Cllr Marc Jones, leader of the Plaid Cymru group, say more discussions need to take place with the Assembly to ensure that enough homes are developed in coming years.

The pair
have both placed the issue high on their agendas as Wrexham prepares for its annual council meeting next Wednesday.

Cllr Roberts said: "The difficulty with affordable housing is at a national level and discussions have to take place with the Assembly government.

"With Redrow announcing a 25 per cent reduction in completions and other developers stopping building new homes, so the Assembly strategy of leaving it to the market is doomed to fail."

Nationally, despite recent price falls, the average house price is still £163,454, a rise of more than four per cent in a year.

Marc Jones, leader of the Plaid Cymru group said: "Our main policy is on affordable housing.

"We are very concerned that Wrexham has seen a big rise in housing developments beyond the reach of the average homebuyer. Basically we haven't been building homes with that average Wrexham homebuyer in mind.

"At the moment there are too many homes for Chester commuters."
