THE brutal murder of a Flintshire postman is to be reinvestigated nearly six years on from his death, the Evening Leader can reveal.
Father-of-one Paul Savage, 30, was attacked by two men while delivering mail on Clayton Road, Mold, on February 4, 2003.

His killers have never been caught, despite police offering a £100,000 reward for any information that could lead to a prosecution.

The reward was raised to £100,000 from £25,000 on the fifth anniversary of Mr Savage's death in a bid to encourage someone to come forward with vital information, but this has so far proved unsuccessful.

However, the North Wales Police have told Mold mayor Andrea Mearns that a reinvestigation into the case is to be launched on Monday.

A letter sent to all members of Mold Town Council to confirm the news said South Flintshire Inspector Alun Oldfield has been asked to provide details of crime statistics in the town, in an effort to reassure residents that Mold is a safe place to live and work, should any fears be raised.

Cllr Mearns said: "The statistic show a downward trend in crime. Mold is a very safe place and it is a tragedy this happened."

Mr Savage's mother, June White, who lives in Manchester, has vowed to never give up fighting for justice for her son.

Timeline of investigation

- February 4, 2003: Paul Savage is found dead in Clayton Road, Mold.

- August 2005: Mr Savage's mother, June White, speaks to the Evening Leader about her ongoing nightmare and frustration that her son's killers are still walking free.

- November 2006: Six people are jailed for a total of nearly 25 years for a variety of offences including GBH, supplying drugs and handling stolen property. The prosecutions were made after an undercover police officer spent a year living with criminals in Mold in an effort to find out more about Mr Savage's murder – an operation that ended without success.

- September 2007: Mrs White vows never to stop fighting for justice for her son, following the death of her husband Lance, who lost his battle with cancer three months earlier.

- February 4, 2008: On the fifth anniversary of Mr Savage's death, North Wales Police and Royal Mail increase the reward for information to help catch his killers to £100,000.

- June 2008: Mr Savage's killing is featured in a double page spread by the Leader as part of our Unsolved Murders series.

- January 7, 2009: Police say they are to reinvestigate the case, starting on January 12.
