AN ESTATE can look forward to having a new food co-operative after residents voted for the idea.
The previous co-op on Pen y Maes in Holywell stopped running in July last year because the hours for picking up the food did not fit in well with peoples' lifestyles.
In response, Holywell Communities First ran a consultation at a bring 'n' buy s
ale in the town's Moriah Chapel to find out if residents wanted their food co-op relaunched, and what times would be most convenient to people.
Four volunteers have already come forward to coordinate the scheme, which could be set up in a matter of weeks.
Vera Davey, a development worker from Holywell Communities First, said: "There is a need for a food co-op in Pen y Maes as it is the only area in Holywell that doesn't have one.
"The feedback from the consultation was really good.
"The next step is for the four volunteers to regroup and decide a date for the launch.
"The produce on offer comes from Hawarden and is all seasonal, which means it is much cheaper than it would be in the supermarkets."
The food co-op is set to run from the Moriah Chapel at times best suited to peoples' needs. People would come to the chapel to pick up their order and to place a new one for the following week.
The food co-op will sell £2.50 bags of fruit, vegetables and salad, eggs and large sacks of potatoes and carrots.
