RESIDENTS have been reassured over the future of a key office building, which it is hoped could become a community facility.
County councillor Ian Roberts gave Chirk Town Council his assurances over the future of the old housing estate offices in the town.

At the annual meeting of the authority, Cllr Roberts told members that both the borough council and the town council had done great work in the past 12 months to prevent the offices from being sold off.

Responding to questioning from town councillor Christine Ashford, who has now left the authority but will continue to work on the project to retain the offices, Cllr Roberts said that the most important thing was that although the offices had not yet been secured for community use, the project has not taken any steps back.

Cllr Roberts, who was re-elected last week, said that had it not been for the hard work put in by himself and his colleagues, the offices might have already been sold.

According to Cllr Roberts, the council is now in an even stronger position to put forward proposals to the county borough council to keep the offices for community use because of the developments with the World Heritage site and restoration of the Glyn Valley Tramway.

Members unanimously agreed that they would support any proposals to retain the housing estate offices for community use.
