WREXHAM has today landed a £2 million grant to tackle some of the town's traffic hotspots.
Wrexham Council has been successful in a bid to the Welsh Assembly Government for funding environmental improvements in the town centre. The bid was for £1,731,0000 for a scheme worth a total of £2,818,000.

The work will be carried out in numerous
areas around the town centre and includes improvements to the road infrastructure to aid traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Improvements to traffic signals will be introduced at the junction of Salop Road and St Giles Way, along with a new right turn lane onto St Giles that will help traffic using the link road and reduce the traffic build up at the junction.

Further traffic signal improvements will be made at the Green Dragon junction and new pedestrian crossings put in place.

Councillor David Bithell, lead member for environment and transportation said: "These junction improvements will assist traffic flows within this sector of the town and ensure road users are able to negotiate the inner ring road in a more efficient way.

"Opportunities for better pedestrian movement are also taking place and this will assist shoppers being able to move freely around all of the town's retail areas."

In other areas, there will be improved lighting, with the introduction of more environmentally friendly white light to St George's Crescent.

There will be new paving and landscaping in the areas around the crescent where the raised flower-beds will be removed and new planting introduced along with new paving and seating.

New on-street car parking (one hour short-stay) will be introduced so that car parking may be managed and to help people visiting the doctors' surgery, pharmacy and businesses on St George's Crescent.
