STRANGE, dazzling lights flying slowly through the night sky have been reported near Wrexham, sparking a new UFO scare.
The Evening Leader has been inundated with calls reporting the triangular shapes over Rhos, as well as sightings in Johnstown and Borras.

The incident, the latest in a long line of sightings in the town, is strengthening claims that the town is fast becoming a UFO hotspot.

Janet Bancroft, 28, and partner Mark Pluke, 24, both witnessed the dazzling lights from their home on Maes-y-Ficerdy, Rhos, after Mark had gone to put the rubbish out.

According to the couple, the lights, spotted at about 7.40pm, formed into a slow-moving triangle before eventually disappearing from view some 20 minutes later.

Janet said: "It was really strange. They formed into a 'V' shape and then into a triangle which sort of got bigger and bigger."

Some have dismissed the phenomenon as Chinese lanterns or low-flying aircraft. Janet, however, is not so sure.

"From the way they came up and formed, I don't think lanterns could do that in the air," she said.

"It is something stranger than that and somebody knows what they are.

"It was really creepy. It takes a lot to scare me and that scared me.

"After that we counted four helicopters in the sky – there is definitely something odd going on."

She added: "I'm not one to believe in UFOs, but that was definitely not right."

Another Rhos resident who spotted the lights on Wednesday evening was taxi driver Steven Austin.

Steven's wife, Mandy, had already seen the mysterious objects on a number of previous nights over the past week, but he had always been absent – until then.

He said: "My wife first saw them last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8pm and 8.30pm, but Wednesday I was there too.

"It flew in some weird triangle formation. It was an upside down triangle.

"I'm a taxi driver and when I got to Rhostyllen I could see them.

"There's a slight buzzing noise to them but I wouldn't have thought they were military jets because they were going too slow.

"I'm always on the road so obviously I can't keep looking up to the sky.

"It's the first time I have ever seen anything like that. Whether they are UFOs, it is hard to say really."

Gareth Hill -Rhos resident
"I too saw these lights over Johnstown on a couple of occasions within the last week or so, but did not see anything unusual. They looked to me to fit the descriptions of the floating lanterns perfectly.

"The two I saw simply floated towards the north, flicking as a flame will tend to do, and eventually disappeared from view. There was nothing odd about their motion. As for "forming a triangle", a set of three points of light in the sky, all floating in the same direction, provided they are not in a straight line WILL form a triangle! The lanterns are all released at the same time, so are subjected to the same wind, and hence will float in the same direction, so of course they will appear to float "in formation".

"Mr Austin, the taxi driver in your story says that there was a "slight buzzing sound" to them – how did he hear that if he was in his car? I heard nothing of the sort when I saw them last week while driving home, and I heard nothing of the sort the previous week when I was standing at my bedroom window watching them."

Chris Bosworth
"These triangular craft have been reported on around the globe.

"They are very likely an American craft propelled by a new form of energy, possibly electromagnetic."

I saw them too, they were 3 red lights which kept fading in and out. I thought they were aircraft at first but they never moved from the position I could see them in, just disappeared then appeared again. Not the first time I have seen things in the area. Not sure about the radio ham explanation as I don't know anything about them.

i too saw these lights whilst loading my car to travel to anglesey. they were in an easterly direction travelling north, in the triangle pattern that you can see on the video. i dismissed them as hot air balloons or chinese lanterns, but these objects were moving in unison in a northerly direction. later, about 5 to 10 mins the lights were above the horizon and only could see two of them. yachydda above is talking rubbish, how can antenna give of a light show like that all moving in the same way, in unison. how can an antenna system "look as though its capable of generating plasma" what qualifications do you have and evidence to support this? i know its mushroom season but come on all these people seeing this, smell the coffee.

To:ian williams rhos

Plasma in an antenna system is caused through excess static electicity build up that discharges through several inert gasses to cause the plasma and various colours depending on the gas.

But seriously now, its a joke, Lanterns are most probably the cause for this or they really are UFO's, good to see someone bite though.

Ive seen these lights on 3 different occasions. They seem to move accross the Johstown area towards Wrexham. They are dim red lights and seem to flicker as if it was a flame. The move slowly but after about 10 mins they seem to get higher and dissapear. Ive heard everynight for the past week that they have been seen but no one seems to no what they are ???

I like the way the Evening Leader has reported the story as having "sparked a new UFO scare".
The people of Rhos and Wrexham can come out from behind the sofa now...
Has any of the journalists checked to see if anything unusual was captured on radar or asked the military etc for an explanation of why there "up to four helicopters in the sky"?
Most UFO sightings are either military 'Black projects', weather abnormalities but very are many many unexplained cases.

My my, so many conspiracy theories.

I suggest that if anyone is really interested in this event and other things going on in the skies of North Wales, they should contact the only person who will actually know.

Forget the Police, MoD and the airports people. They will tell you nothing if anything odd was moving about or if secret.

Contact the guy who runs Conwy UFO Group. His site is online. He knows more than anyone about the truth behind the 1974 Berwyn Mountain UFO Crash incident. Read his site and you will be stunned as to what the authorities are up to in North Wales.

I seen exactly what "welsh dude" saw. I have seen them twice. Always around 7pm and 8pm. At first we thought they were Hot air Balloons! Very Strange indeed.
My whole family were out watching them from the backgarden!
They first appeared, then went into a diagonal line, then one went higher and dissapeared, then the others followed and also dissapeared!

I would be very interested to know what they were!
