Two North Wales NHS trusts to merge
TWO of North Wales'NHS trusts have been given the green light to merge, despite fears over job security and patient care.
The North East Wales NHS Trust and Conwy and Denbighshire Trust are to merge, forming one body.
The new organisation, called the North Wales NHS Trust, will be operational from July 1.
Edwina Hart, the Welsh Assembly's health minister, has sanctioned the move.
The merger will bring together more than 11,000 staff providing hospital, community and mental health care for over 520,000 people.
Hospitals covered by the North East Wales Trust include Wrexham Maelor and community hospitals in Flint, Holywell, Mold, Deeside, Chirk and Penley.
Conwy and Denbighshire Trust is responsible for hospitals including Glan Clwyd. Trade unions and patient watchdogs have voiced concerns over the move.
