A BEACH has been given a spring clean thanks to a hardworking team of volunteers.
Flintshire Countryside Services' coastal unit has been working closely with BHP Billiton, a global resources company, to clear old metal and rubble from the Warren area of Talacre beach.
The Warren, popular with dog walkers and holiday makers, was used as an evacuee site during the Second World War and is littered with remnants of the past, including old latrines, bedsteads, broken glass and building rubble.
A team of volunteers, made up of Flintshire's coastal unit, BHP Billiton staff and a work placement from Chester University, spent a day digging up and pulling out old material which was unsafe for people using the site.
More than four large trailer loads of debris were removed, improving the site for conservation and recreational use.
Work on the beach is set to continue, with support from local residents and businesses, as it is a protected area, important for its rare plants and animals.
Coastal ranger Jean Evans said: "The area looked wonderful following the clean up. It makes a big difference and the site is now far safer."
