Welsh minister from Wrexham resigns after breaking smoking ban

WALES' heritage minister has resigned after breaking the rules on smoking in an enclosed public space, the second of two high-profile gaffes.
First minister Rhodri Morgan accepted Wrexham-born Rhodri Glyn Thomas's resignation after he was spotted walking into the Eli Jenkins pub in Cardiff Bay with a lit cigar on Wednesday night.
The former shadow health minister was among AMs who backed the ban on smoking in public places, introduced on April 2, 2007.
Mr Thomas, 55, apologised recently after embarrassingly reading out the wrong winner at the prestigious Welsh Book of the Year Awards at the Cardiff Hilton.
Born in Wrexham, Mr Thomas was educated at Ysgol Bodhyfryd, Ysgol Morgan Llwyd Wrexham and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he studied Welsh.
