WREXHAM'S MP is to join the Government with a new appointment as assistant whip.
Gordon Brown asked Ian Lucas to take on the role on Sunday as part of the Government reshuffle.
Mr Lucas is one of 18 assistant whips, responsible for keeping party discipline and trying to ensure all Labour MPs vote in line with the Government on important House of Commons votes.
Mr Lucas told the Leader this morning: "I spoke to the Prime Minister on Sunday and I was delighted that he rang, and he was very kind and offered me the job.
"I was very pleased to take it and I want to work within the Government to ensure that the progress we are making in places like Wrexham is maintained.
"I'm very excited and still in the process of establishing which department I will be working with but I'm really looking forward to it and it's a way of finding more about the House of Commons and the way it works.
"It's an exciting time."
