A STUDENT at Yale College has become the first in North Wales to receive an army bursary.
Yasmin Roberts has taken advantage of the Army FE Bursary Scheme at the college, which is open to students aged between 16 and 32 who are undertaking a full level-two vocational qualification.

Yasmin will receive financial support of £1,000 for e
ach year of her studies on her full-time automotive course in the engineering department.

She will then receive a further £1,000 upon completion of her army basic training.

"We are delighted for Yasmin," said Alan Lowry, programme co-ordinator at Yale.

"The scheme provides highly credible support and gives a fantastic career focus for students."

Army careers advisor Major Rick Kalewski said: "While at college the army in Wales will prepare and support Yasmin with work experience, preparation for the army development and selection centre and most of all we will be on hand throughout to mentor her."

Mr Lowry and Major Kalewski said they would be pleased to give details to other students interested in joining the scheme.

For further information about learning opportunities telephone Yale College on 01978 311794 or visit www.yale-wrexham.ac.uk.

What a great idea for young people wanting to go in the army this ables them to go in with a trade and the army fully supports them in all ascepts, hope other students realise what a good offer this is and takes it up, with the credit crunch and job losses, this a good carrer to be in.
