SEVEN youngsters were arrested as part of an ongoing police operation to tackle underage drinking among school leavers.
The youths were arrested on Tuesday night for public disorder after Ysgol Clywedog's year 11 celebrated the last school day.

Community beat manager PC Paul Davies emphasised the youngsters had come from all over Wrexham to congregate in Erddig Par
k to booze.

He said: "There was a little bit of disorder in Erddig Park and seven were arrested for public disorder.

"It wasn't just pupils from Ysgol Clywedog – there was a lot of people coming in from other areas, they weren't just local."

PC Davies added that no problems had been encountered as Rhosnesni High School year 11 pupils finished last Friday, but a quantity of alcohol had been recovered from a field adjacent to Borras Park Infant School.

Police across the county launched the high profile campaign to cut down on underage drinkers who choose to booze rather than revise for their exams.

Year 11 pupils at Darland School in Rossett had their last assembly in school before their GCSE exams on Monday.

The Leader reported how local police officers attended their service to pass on a safety message and advised them against congregating to drink alcohol. Officers have been attending the school in such a way for years but youngsters also got a chance to meet the force's mounted police officers for the first time.

The police horses were out on patrol with the neighbourhood policing teams for Rossett, Holt, Gresford, Marford and Hoseley from 5pm to 11pm.

But community beat manager for Rossett and Holt PC Vanessa Griffiths said it was "a superb evening" with no trouble at all.

"If the young people were out celebrating at all they were a credit to the school," said PC Griffiths.

"The horses stayed on until 10pm and we were on patol from 5pm until 11pm in an effort to make sure celebrations were well-behaved but there didn't seem to be much going on.

"In the past celebrations have got quite busy but this year was very quiet."

Dear evening leader i am writing about my daughter shanice matthias comments on the leaving school night out at Erddig. My daughter was arrested and taken into custody at 9.30pm ie for being drunk in a public place. She was taken to the police station and put in a holding cell all personal items taken off her, then interviewed i stress that it was by to male officers no female officers were presant. I am furious as there is more to this story than i can enter into this comment. Shanice also was issued a 80.00 pound fine, and then was allowed to leave the police station alone.
Thank you
