A BRAVE Wrexham schoolboy saved his mum's life by phoning the emergency services when she had an epileptic fit and collapsed in front of him.
Jake Mold, aged eight, was at home in Wrexham on New Year's Eve with his mum, Janet Hughes, when she unexpectedly started to have a fit.

The bright Rhosddu Primary School pupil swiftly phoned 999 and told emergency services what had happened and what address to come to.

Recalling the incident at the family home on Deva Way, Caia Park, dad Gary Mold said: "I went out and Jake and Janet were at home.

"Jan went into a real massive fit, and fair play to Jake he kept his cool and dialled an ambulance."

Janet, who has never suffered from epilepsy before in her life, was rushed to Wrexham Maelor hospital for treatment.

Gary said: "We are very proud of Jake because some children would have panicked.

"Jan could have lost her life."

The mum of one fell down the stairs, sustaining a number of cuts and bruises, and went to hospital where she was given regular medication to take.

Janet, 30, had her first fit on Christmas Day. On Boxing Day she had another minor fit and then had the major fit on New Years Eve.

Gary, who works as a security guard for the NHS in Holywell, said he and Janet had taught Jake what to do in an emergency.

"His grandparents are so proud of him," said Gary.

"The fits have been terrifying and out of the blue, and we think Jake should be recognised for what he did.

"It really does hammer home how you can be here one minute and gone the next."

Janet said: "I think it's really brilliant what Jake did.

"It's mind boggling to think what would have happened if he hadn't been there to call 999."

Jake was given a 'hero' toffee and chocolate cake from his parents for his bravery.

"He's got a huge personality and is a joker," said Gary.

"People say he should be on stage."

The couple plan to get married this year.

Janet is recovering at home and is taking medication for the epilepsy.
