Craig Owen, 16, of Coed-y-Felin Road, Brymbo, was on a family holiday when tragedy struck back in August.

The teenager had been playing with a group of more than a dozen youngsters at Cefn Sidan Beach, near Burry Port, in west Wales.

The popular beauty spot is dotted with giant sand dunes.

Craig was tunnelling into one when it collapsed. Frantic family members watched in horror as rescuers fought in vain to dig him out alive.

Glowing tributes were paid to the teenager and results released later in August by Craig's school, Ysgol Bryn Alyn, in Gwersyllt, revealed he gained five A*s and five A grades in different subjects.

Hundreds of mourners turned out for Craig's funeral on August 12.

The 16-year-old's coffin, covered with the Welsh flag and red flowers spelling out his name, was carried into Pentrebychan Crematorium while a recording of the Llanelli Male Voice choir singing the Welsh national anthem was played.

The inquest into his death is taking place at Llanelli Town Hall today.
