The White Waters Hotel is Llangollen's newest hotel and restaurant, set high on an outcrop overlooking the River Dee.
The family-run hotel only opened at the end of May and is the result of an extensive building and renovation project, incorporating a large Victorian house which had been unoccupied for many years.
One of the main features of the hotel is the huge outdoor deck area commanding spectacular views over the river and the valley beyond, but it is also quickly gaining an excellent reputation for it's food.
The decor of the bar area is reminiscant of a typical country hotel with wood panelling and fireplace and the restaurant simple and comfortable.
On arrival in the entrance hall you are greeted by the family's pet parrot, named Alfie, who has an extensive vocuabulary at his disposal and if you're lucky might even dance.
Staff at the hotel are friendly and efficient and our order was taken almost as soon as we set the menus down.
We had decided to eat in the bar and, feeling very hungry, I opted for a 10oz eye steak while my girlfriend went for a 'slow roasted' shoulder of lamb.
Much to the our relief the meals arrived a short time later and the portions were generous to say the least.
We started eating with great anticipation and were far from disappointed.
The steak was excellent, cooked just how I ordered it (rare) and served with an array of field mushrooms, tomatoes, onion rings and thick-cut chips.
The lamb was also extremely succulent and tasty, and came with honey roasted vegetables, creamed potato and a rich redcurrent and rosmary jus.
Both meals were very enjoyable and portions were more than ample, so much so that a dessert seemed out of the question.
It might seem a little on the dear side but prices are competitive with most of the restaurants in the Llangollen area, and the quality and quantity of the food makes it excellent value.
So if you fancy a great meal in nice surroundings, with friendly staff and splendid views then I would highly recommend White Waters.
Our menu choice:
10oz Rib Eye Steak with Chunky Chips £15.95
Slow Roasted Shoulder of Lamb £13.95
2 Cokes £2.40
The price: £32.30
