BOWLS - Victory keeps Aston on the tails of the leaders
WREXHAM VETERANS LEAGUE - ASTON A are not letting the Division One leaders pull away and they kept in touch by recording an 8-2 home win against Hawkesbury A.
Joe O'Shea 21-3 and Fred Pickford 21-6 were best for Aston with Geoff Hopwood 21-15 and Ken Parry 21-19 for Hawkesbury.
Llay A defeated Coedpoeth A 7-3 with Colin Evans 21-7, and Derek White and Barry Cupit both 21-12, on form for Llay and Les Williams 21-7 and Trevor Roberts 21-16 for Coedpoeth.
Chirk AAA beat Gate HH A 7-3. Travis Stokes 21-7 and Eric Stokes 21-8 led for Chirk and Frank O'Neil 21-11 and Des Wynne 21-17 for the Gate.
Cunliffe A lost 7-3 at home to Brymbo. John Huxley and Geoff Kelsall both 21-10 bowled well for Cunliffe with Tony Partington 21-11 and Gerald Hughes 21-12 for Brymbo.
Gresford Village A were another team that went down 7-3 against Coed Talon A who stay top. John Smith 21-10 and Trena Formstone 21-16 were best for Gresford with Graham Prydden 21-9 and John Cooper 21-13 for Coed Talon.
Parciau A were beaten 7-3 at home by second place Rhos. Walter Jones 21-13 and Ken Roberts 21-14 led for Parciau with Merwyn Williams 21-5 and Alan Murphy 21-6 for Rhos.
Fred Pickford of Aston is the division's merit leader.
In Division Two, Flexsys B won 7-3 at home to Castell Alun. Don Hughes 21-4 and Brian Jones 21-10 were on form for Flexsys with Brian Watkins 21-5 and Bob Jones 21-9 for Castell Alun.
Coed Talon B triumphed 9-1 against Farndon A. Teg Langford and Brian Jones led by both winning 21-4 while Margaret Hughes 21-14 saved the day for Farndon.
Gate HH B lost 8-2 at home against Garden Village A. Betty Young 21-8 and Kath Jones 21-20 bowled well for the Gate with Ray Parry 21-11 and Arfon Hughes 21-15 for Garden Village.
Royston were defeated 9-1 at home against Flexsys A. Elfed Morris saved them a whitewash by winning 21-12, but Sue Taylor replied with 21-12 for Flexsys.
Farndon B lost the aggregate and were beaten 6-4 at home to Bersham.
Alan King 21-9 and Lloyd Baker 21-10 were best for Farndon and Graham Collins and Alan Hopwood both 21-7 for Bersham.
Johnstown slipped to a 7-3 home defeat against Cunliffe B. Peter Cuffin and Jim Richardson both 21-11 were on form for Johnstown with Billy Brand 21-9 and Betty Lucas 21-12 for Cunliffe.
Farndon's Geoff Nevitt is leading the Division Two merit.
Llay B triumphed 9-1 at home to Bangor on Dee in Division Three. Dave Hallett 21-6 and John R Williams 21-8 bowled well for Llay and Les Done 21-17 saved the day for Bangor.
Garden Village B lost 7-3 to Aston B. Barbara Edwards 21-12 and Cath Pumford 21-13 were best for Garden Village with Bill Bennett 21-2 and Wilf Cooper 21-14 for Aston.
Wrexham Miners were one player short and could only draw 5-5 at home to Treuddyn. Jack Stokes 21-6 and Alan Barlow 21-12 led for the Miners with Ralph Jones 21-1 and John Day 21-14 for Treuddyn.
Gresford Village B could only manage a 5-5 draw at home against Plaskynaston who were two players short. The winner for Gresford was Jim Miller at 21-20 and Brian Edwards 21-10 and Dave Evans 21-16 were best for Plaskynaston.
Barry Conde of Treuddyn is leading the division's merit.
In Division Four, Gresford Colliery have gone 16 points clear at the top after a 7-3 home win against Rossett. Dave Haslam 21-4 and Barry Smith 21-6 bowled well for Gresford with Bob Williams 21-9 and Mike Adcock 21-12 for Rossett.
Coed Talon C triumphed 7-3 at home to Gresford Village C. Peter Byrne 21-4 and Noel Tarron 21-9 were on form for Coed Talon and Hazel Lewis 21-13 for Gresford Village.
Garden Village C were beaten 7-3 by Parciau B. Rose Hodges 21-16 and Maureen Evans 21-18 were best for Garden Village with Dave Selley, Dora Lincoln, Hazel Jones and Bill Hughes all 21-16 for Parciau.
Coedpoeth B recorded an 8-2 victory at home against Cunliffe C. Dilwyn Parry 21-6 and Pauline Lindley 21-8 led for Coedpoeth with Bill Cotton 21-8 and Peter Lloyd 21-9 replying.
