WELSH CUP AND LIVERPOOL COMPETITION - North Wales two surviving clubs have both landed dream home ties in the quarter-finals of the coveted Welsh Cup.
Northop Hall, who defeated 2006 trophy winners Llandudno in the recent zone semi-final, have been paired with Mumbles, near Swansea, at Smithy Lane; while Llay, who beat Llanrwst, will entertain Newport at The Ring.
Both matches will be played on Sunday, July 27 following the open draw involving the last eight in Wales premier competition.
Llay have been going well in Division One of the North Wales League with Dave Phennah in decent form along with Denbighshire county all-rounder John Parry.
Northop Hall, who lifted the trophy for the only time in 1997, have made recapturing the prized cup one of the priorities of their current centenary season while Llay have yet to figure in a final. The other quarter-finals involve Carmarthen Wanderers v St Fagans and Gowerton v Port Talbot.
The respective winners will go through to the semi-finals to be played on Sunday, August 17 ahead of the showpiece final at Abergavenney on Sunday, September 7.
"We are delighted to have been drawn at home and we know Mumbles will be tough opponents, especially having come up all this way!" said Northop Hall skipper Danny Nolan, who turns his attentions to clmbing up the Liverpool Competition table tomorrow.
Hall, down from top to third after their costly defeat at promotion rivals Rainford, have turned to old faithful Darren Peters to get them back on track.
The long-serving former Hall skipper and hero of countless past triumphs for both club and county, is recalled for the home game against mid-table Skelmersdale. "Darren has such a wealth of experience and ability that he could be just the person we can do with as we look to get back to pole position," said Nolan.
"He's been in really good nick all season with the Seconds and can do the business with bat or ball and in the field so having him back makes a lot of sense."

Northop Hall also have an attractive encounter on Monday when they entertain MCC in an all-day game as part of their centenary week celebrations at Smithy Lane, starting at 11-30am.
Called in as a guest player is Gareth Williams, the talented Flintshire county ace and regular star turn with next-door village club Northop.
"We've got a strong side out for what will be for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion and we are pleased that Gareth can be a part of it. Let's hope we get a decent crowd along to enjoy the occasion," added Nolan.
