N0RHT WALES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION PREVIEW - DAFYDD RHYS is anticipating an exciting second half of the Premier Division season for his Brymbo side – starting tomorrow at home to league leaders Menai Bridge.
After recording their first away win of the season at Bethesda last weekend, Rhys feels his team are ready to make a dart up the table with only 15 points separating five sides.

"We are on a very good run," he declared.

"With a couple more victories we will be right back amongst the leading teams.

"We are one of the in-form sides, and players like David Lloyd, Stewart Williams and Nick Jones are playing some brilliant cricket.

"David produced a superb knock which included a big six over the school and at just 16 that is wonderful, and Nick deserves a mention for his consistency."

Brymbo welcome back Russell Penrhyn Jones after a two match ban and bowler Michael Edge returns in place of the absent Huw Thomas. Nick Jones also misses out on the match with table-topping Bridge.

Martin Burger reckons Connah's Quay's one wicket victory over Pontblyddyn last weekend was one of the most nerve-wracking matches he has ever played in.

Ahead of his side's trip to fellow title chasers Mold, Burger spoke about the up and down affair at Alder Meadow: "In 20 years of cricket it was one of the most tense matches I have played in," he said.

"We had them struggling to begin with then they hit back. After that we got off to a reasonable start only to see quick wickets fall and in the end we just edged over the winning line.

"Luckily we had managed to get a win before it became too dark. Our players were struggling to see Mark Neath's bowling, so when Charles Fernando was brought back on it was really tricky. Fortunately nobody else could see it either, and one of his overs went for 22 runs which included a lot of extras."

Burger continued by highlighting the areas Quay will attack: "Mold are doing really well and Jamie Griffiths and Usman Butt are getting them off to a lot of good starts. If we can get those two out cheaply we will be more confident. We don't underestimate any team and we will certainly be going in to the match showing Mold the respect they deserve."

Top five batsman Gareth Jones returns n place of Kevin Jones although Shane Carlton is still missing for the trip to fourth placed Mold, who are still smarting after their shock four wicket defeat at Hawarden Park last Saturday.

"We were over confident," were the words of Mold captain Jamie Griffiths. "It was very disappointing in the end. The performance was our worst of the season.

But Griffiths praised top performer John Williams for his 46 – lifting Mold from a score of 98 to a respectable if below par 157.

"John's bowling has been fantastic all season and his batting was good at the weekend. When he took two quick wickets we were hopeful of claiming an unlikely win ... but the better side won in the end.

Griffiths was expecting a close encounter against Connah's Quay, and said: "We have struggled in the last two matches and they had a bad time of it and that means that neither side can afford a slip up.

Mold have Russ Wiseman, Danny Drew and Gareth Evans all returning in place of the absent Steve Burkhill and John Bedbrook.

Bangor travel to second from bottom Llanrwst confident of victory after they bowled out league leaders Menai Bridge for just 55 last weekend while mid table Mochdre will be hopeful of putting pressure on those above them by claiming maximum points at struggling St Asaph.

The final match of the weekend sees Bethesda visit Llandudno looking to close the gap on the third placed outfit with an away triumph.
