NEWI Cefn Druids have strengthened their team further with the signings of James Hussanney from rivals Airbus and Lee Jones who was released by Wrexham at the end of last season.
Hussanney who can play on either wing and as a striker has joined from Airbus having seen his first team opportunities limited at the Airfield.

18-year-old Jones was released by Brian Little at the end of the season and after a brief trial put pen
to paper on a deal after The Ancients' 1-0 friendly defeat against Mynydd Isa on Tuesday evening.

Phillips declared himself pleased with his teams preparations for the forthcoming season despite a second consecutive pre-season defeat.

"Things are going well," admitted Phillips.

"People will look at results but up until now we have not done any specific work. We have been concentrating on fitness and with the amount of players available to us it has been difficult.

"The next match is on Saturday at Colwyn Bay and that may be the time to give people jobs to do and look at using a squad of no more than 20 players."

The former Wrexham man continued by speaking about the clubs on going transfer dealings: "We have brought in three players and there are two or three we are looking at. We will be speaking to them soon so preparations for the first match of the season against Welshpool are going well.

"Lee can play anywhere across the defence and James can play a variety of attacking roles so it gives us options and competition for places. Nicky Ward played 45 minutes against Mynydd Isa after missing the previous game through injury and that is pleasing.

"We have lost three players from last season's team with the aim was to replace them and we have managed to do that."

Steve Buxton has been appointed as the new manager of NEWI Cefn Druids reserve team following the resignation of reserve team manager and academy director Brian Manford.

The former Wrexham player and Flint Town United manager has joined The Ancients after having been in charge of the U16 side at Borras Park Albion.

Also joining the coaching staff is Steve Gelder, who has been appointed as the Interim Academy Director.

Phillips described the appointment of Buxton as a major coup for the club.

"It is great for the club to have Steve on board," admitted Phillips.

"Myself and Lee have been looking after the reserves and it will be good for them to have someone like Steve in charge."

Meanwhile, Llanelli carved out a slender lead in the first leg of their Uefa Champions League first qualifying round tie against Ventspils.

The only goal of a nervy contest at Stebonheath Park arrived in the 11th-minute. Andy Legg's long throw eluded everyone in the box to find
Stuart Jones steaming-in at the far post.
