A WREXHAM band taking the music world by storm will be performing on a national radio station after recording a special live gig for Radio 1 on Thursday night.
Gallops! joined Capguns, You Animals and Cazals at a packed show at Wrexham's Central Station

Organised by a collaboration between BBC Introducing and local promoters Don't Die Just Yet, the event will be broadcast on Thursday July 10 on Bethan Elfyn's Radio 1 show.

Three members of the band, Mark Huckridge, 22, Paul Maurice, 26, and Dave Morait, 27, came together a year ago, but they realised they needed another guitarist, so invited Brad Whyte, 20, to join. From then on, it clicked.

Paul said "We started practicing wherever we could, and putting demos together. Bethan Elfyn heard our stuff and liked it, and people started to pick up on it.

"You couldn't pigeonhole our music into a particular genre because it's so experimental, but I think that's why people like it so much."

The band had already performed a successful gig organised by Don't Die Just Yet, so they didn't hesistate to sign up when asked to take part in the Radio 1 event.

Although the band are no strangers to airplay, having had their track 'Lasers' broadcast by Bethan Elfyn, and winning 'Demo of the Week' on Adam Walton's Radio Wales programme, Brad said doing a live gig for the radio was a much bigger deal.

"It's a lot more of a test. You only get one take when you play live.

"It was surreal to be introduced by Bethan Elfyn, but it was really good. Things like this really put the music scene in Wrexham on the map."
