RICKY EVANS believes there is no reason why Gap Queen's Park can't turn the tables on Rhyl and cause a Welsh Cup upset.
Cymru Alliance outfit Gap Queens Park are enjoying their best ever run in the Welsh Cup and make the trip to Welsh Premier League heavyweights Rhyl on Saturday in the quarter-finals of the historic competition.
Ricky, regarded as a highly talented midfielder by managers in Wales' top league where he has represented eight clubs and made more than 220 appearances, has been playing at The Queensway since October and helped Stewart Roberts' side progress through four rounds to reach the last eight of the competition.
And the 31-year-old Wales semi-professional international, who comes up against one of his former clubs in the shape of Rhyl, is hoping Queen's Park can continue their historic run by causing a cup shock.
"Rhyl are one of my old teams and I am really looking forward to it. It should be a good game," said Evans. "We have got a decent side and we have got a chance against them.
"You have to think that and I really do. We have been scoring some good goals lately and plenty of them.
"Welshpool beat them 1-0 at the weekend and if they can, I am sure that we can! It would be brilliant to keep our run going."
Ricky has reached the final of the Welsh Cup on previous occasions with TNS, Bangor CIty and Rhyl but has yet to taste success.
And with all the players at Queens Park eager to win a starting place at Belle Vue this weekend, the playmaker was expecting a full turnout in training this week.
"I hope we can keep it tight and get the result. If we can keep it tight for 90 minutes we can try and nick a goal ourselves," said Ricky. "It is a big pitch at Rhyl and we should take a few fans - we have got a bit of a following - so it should be a decent atmosphere.
"Everyone is looking forward to it. The lads are buzzing and I'm sure everyone will be in training this week!
"We are also going bowling for a bit of team bonding as part of our build-up, you have to do something different, and we can't wait for the match."
Queens Park are currently sixth in the Cymru Alliance table and Evans, who was on Oldham Athletic's books as a professional for a few years when they reached the Premiership in the 1990's, hopes the club, whose home ground is the Queensway, can land some silverware this season.
"It is only this year Queens Park have really pushed to get a decent side and I am enjoying it," he added. "We are having a good season, although we have dipped a bit in the league.
"But our cup form is good, and we are still in every cup that we can be so we have got a great chance of winning something."
Ricky is full of admiration for his brother, Steve, who last year was voted Wrexham's Player of the Season and has been part of the recent upturn in fortunes at The Racecourse which has given renewed hope the Reds can avoid relegation.
"I am chuffed to bits for Steve," he added. "Steve has worked hard and done very well - I just wish I had worked harder myself.
"Steve has been brilliant and I can't say enough about him. He has played well when picked for Wales and outstanding for Wrexham the last four or five weeks.
"He was struggling a bit at the start of the season when not playing but he has been getting games since then and has turned it around for himself.
"I think everyone at Wrexham has been the last four or five weeks and I hope they get out of it.
"They need to because it would be terrible for the town if they didn't, but I think they will."
