BRIAN Little believes referee Andy Hall was correct to award Wrexham two controversial penalties at Morecambe last night.

Wrexham twice came from behind to equalise from the spot and earn a 2-2 draw in their first ever visit to Christie Park.

Fouls in the area allowed Danny Sonner, later taken off because of a groin injury, and substitute Michael Proctor to put away spot-kicks.

And Little, who also believes Hall made the right decision to over-rule a linesman who awarded Morecambe a penalty following a Neil Taylor challenge, was full of praise for the Wolverhampton official.

"We've had a couple of decisions go our way which I think were right decisions," said Little, whose side stretched their unbeaten run to three games, said today.

"If anyone was arguing that they weren't penalties, I would have to disagree. I genuinely thought they were penalties so I thought the referee did a good job in that respect.

"Obviously you question some decisions but overall I thought the three major ones – the two penalties for us and the linesman flagging for a penalty which the referee over-ruled – were right.

"I think watching a DVD will prove he did a good job.

"With officials there are always silly little things you disagree with but when there are big decisions, that is when they come into play. And I thought last night he got the big decisions right."

Referee Hall also sent off Richard Hope in injury time, with the Reds' captain shown a second yellow card.

And Little had no complaints about the dismissal of Hope who he said had committed too many fouls.

"Richard got into a rut where he just kept on fouling," said Little. "We have spoken to him about how important it is when you are having a tough time not to get roped into it.

"Richard got sucked into fouling and paid the penalty for that.

"In a 10 minute spell I lost count of fouls, and we were trying to get onto him to slow down. Ultimately the referee had nothing else to do but do it.

"As I said, I think the referee got the major decisions right and his sending off was spot on. I can't argue with that."

Little admitted his defence struggled to cope with Morecambe's attacks, leaving the Reds under the cosh for much of the game.

"We did do some silly things and we didn't play overly well. Overall, they were by far the stronger side," said Little.

"The biggest problem was that we couldn't deal with their forwards so we were always under pressure defensively.

"We never really looked comfortable and because of that I am pleased to have got out of the game.

"I think on another day, the situations they got into they might have scored a few more goals. We have got to count our blessings in that respect and I am very happy with a point because they cut us to pieces too many times.

"Their two forwards dictated the game, and our centre-backs have had a rough game."

Although not impressed with his side's performance, Little said the positive thing was that his side came out of the clash with a point, adding: "We have not played very well and it is one of those games at the moment where results are more important than performances I guess.

"We made it hard by conceding very early in each half but overall I wasn't really happy with the way we played.

"I would settle for points all the time for sure, but I just thought we got pulled around a little bit too much, especially at the back.

"We were always an accident waiting to happen – but it's a great result. That's the nice thing about it.

"It's been a hard night, I did not enjoy watching the game. It was too frustrating and they were too much better than us, yet we got a point out of it."

Meanwhile, having already signed 11 players since taking over as manager, Little had admitted he would be interested in signing Chester winger Kevin Ellison, who was sent off for violent conduct in the Blues 4-0 home hammering by Rochdale last night.

But Little stressed that no deal had yet been struck with the former Tranmere and Hull player, who is also interesting fellow League strugglers Bury.

"We are asking about players here, there and everywhere, and people are asking about our players. That is the nature of the business," added Little.

"We would prefer not to go shouting about it but if it comes out, we will not deny it if it's true.

"We have had conversations with Chester and at the moment those conversations are ongoing.

"If something develops, great, if it doesn't then we will just look or try something else.

"We are interested and that is where we are at. There is no deal at the moment and only time will tell if there will be."

Carl Tremarco also limped off with a hamstring problem and both he and Sonner are doubtful for Saturday's match against Darlington at The Racecourse.
