Michael Proctor's ninth goal of the season earned Wrexham a share of the spoils in their big relegation clash against the Stags and having been behind, manager Little was relieved to avoid defeat.
"We did not play well but thankfully we have come out with something," said Little.
"Had we lost it would have been a major disappointment and the way we played, it would have made it a very difficult week ahead for us.
"The result in the end was decent for us when you've been 1-0 down and could not get to grips with the game.
"We are disappointed but we are still there."
Little admitted Wrexham had failed to exert themselves on the game and said the absence of experienced Danny Sonner, sitting out his second consecutive match because of an achilles problem, had been a huge loss in the centre of midfield.
"It is easy to say nervousness was the prime excuse but we just did not play very well," said Little. "It was disappointing that it just did not happen.
"We knew we had to play better in the second half but I don't think anybody really played particularly well and we made a lot of mistakes.
"I don't really know why. We had to make a few changes and we couldn't get to grips with the game in the middle of the park which is going to be quite important for us.
"I think we missed Danny, and Silvio Spann and Jeff Whitley just couldn't really boss the game at all."
Little made a double substitution on the hour mark with Chris Llewellyn one of the players taken off.
That decision did not go down too well with some supporters and Little explained his actions: "I couldn't see Mansfield scoring – and I couldn't really see us scoring to be honest," added Little.
"When Mansfield did score you fear the worst. We had to try something.
"There were a few shouts for Chris, and apologies to fans who like him, but they have got to try and appreciate my job as well and I tried to balance the side up.
"We did get a point out of it so in that respect it was okay.
"At this time, everybody needs everybody to help each other. We are all in it together, all trying our best and if we make mistakes, we are honest enough to admit that."
